Making an impact in the fashion world

Blockchain is bringing about massive changes to the fashion industry. Everything from digital collectibles to metaverse exhibitions, gaming avatars, and even “phygital” NFTs have been added to an ever-expanding list of digital fashion trends and use cases.

We thought we’d take a moment to celebrate the growing success of digital fashion by reflecting on some exciting projects that MoonPay has worked on.

Collezione Genesi

In August 2021, MoonPay partnered with Dolce & Gabbana on the launch of the world’s first digital and physical collection of haute couture NFTs.

The Collezione Genesi (Genesis Collection) featured designs by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who founded the eponymous luxury house in 1985. Items were auctioned on UNXD, the curated marketplace for luxury NFTs built on the Polygon blockchain, with MoonPay facilitating payments.

The collaboration was a big success: in total it generated 1,185.719 ETH, making it the highest-grossing digital fashion release of all time.

DGFamily

MoonPay joined forces with D&G and UNXD again in February 2022 after the rollout of NFT Checkout, our solution that enables users to buy NFTs with a credit card.

This time it was for Dolce & Gabbana’s DGFamily collection: a series of “glass box” NFTs that unlocked access to the wider D&G ecosystem and provided benefits such as physical and digital merchandise and exclusive experiences. MoonPay enabled fiat payments for the collection, allowing collectors to make a purchase in their local currency.

The glass box reveal took place in April, with the glass becoming one of three different color tiers–Black, Gold, and Platinum–each providing different perks.

The Universe

In April 2022, MoonPay partnered with Fondation Vasarely, Paco Rabanne, and Selfridges on the launch of their first NFT collection, The Universe

Proceeds from the collection, which contained 12 NFT artworks from the late Op-Art pioneer Victor Vasarely and 12 Paco Rabanne “Unwearable” archive couture NFTs, were used to restore their physical counterparts. For example, proceeds from the Paco Rabanne NFT sales facilitated the restoration of historical Paco Rabanne archive pieces.

The NFTs were minted on the Polygon network, which has been the blockchain of choice for global brands including Prada and Adidas.

CFDA 60th anniversary

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) was founded in 1962 by American fashion icon Eleanor Lambert. To celebrate its 60th anniversary, the association will release a premiere NFT collection that will be auctioned in late November, and shortly thereafter will hold a virtual exhibition in The Sandbox

Digital agency Brand New Vision and NFT platform Arianee will help to develop the collectibles on the Polygon blockchain while MoonPay will facilitate payments. “This felt like a good milestone or benchmark moment,” said CFDA CEO Steven Kolb to Women’s Wear Daily, “...and I think when we go live, people will really have a special experience.”

The NFTs will be auctioned directly on CFDA’s website.
