Web3 authentication is a way to prove one’s identity without the need for central oversight.
Most forms of authentication are centralized. Whether someone verifies their identity using their driver’s license, employee badge, or Facebook account, in almost every instance there’s a central registry: a single, authoritative database that stores and manages credentials.
Web3 authentication is different. Blockchain technology now makes it possible for people to have a decentralized identity that’s verifiable without a central registry.
This is made possible through the use of digital signatures: blockchain’s way of proving who’s who.
